That’s correct. I was skiing in powder on May 1st 2010 at Arapahoe Basin. I had freshies aka first tracks in the chutes on Pali and in Montezuma, all over the place! The pow was not as deep as the Saturday prior where I was literally realizing how much I ski with my mouth open…so much snow going in my mouth. I’m not exaggerating at all and I didn’t fall! The ski season this year has been challenging in terms of snowfall. There really hasn’t been much compared to years past. However, the past 2 weeks have been phenomenal. Colorado really does offer you the ability to ski in powder, golf, and catch a baseball game all in one day. There simply not too many other places in the world that provide or allow you to have this lifestyle. If you’ve hung up your skis for the season, I’d highly reconsider. Let me put things in perspective…2 days ago, I was jumping off mandatory air, and hucking off small rocks, plowing through bumps, taking huge turns at high speeds with zero fear of falling, slipping on ice, and hitting a rock or tree. It’s still awesome skiing and I do highly recommend spending your time and cash at Arapahoe Basin!

Snow in May in Colorado
Monday, May 3rd, 2010Jah Loves are down for the count
Monday, January 11th, 2010I’m sad to report the Jah Loves are on their way back to the Nordica factory. I took them to the shop for a tune in preparation for an excellent upcoming weekend in Steamboat. They needed just a bit of work, not too much as I only brought them out a few times last season. As I stepped to the counter, the tech pulled the skis apart and turned one over. Ouch, my stomach dropped as I knew instantly this was not a good sign. He showed me how the ski was separating from the base and the top on the edge and it was a long separation.
A clear manufacturer’s defect as he so eloquently stated, probably trying to make me feel better. It’s just a ski, but I became so attached to it as it is clearly the best ski I’ve ever skied on in my over 20 year career. I think I’m most sad because I may never have that graphic in my possession again. It’s the original Jah Love graphic and it’s sik! Sure enough, I took my Jester bindings home, hanging my head low. I still have a kick ass pair of Gotama’s, but they’re just not the Jah Love’s.

To make myself feel better, I skied on the Gotama’s on Saturday and had an excellent day at the basin. The Pali lift was running and it was great to get back on that 2 person chair. I’m stoked for Steamboat, and hope the weather is fantastic. I can’t go skinnier under foot folks, I can only go bigger, so if there’s another ski out there you think I should go for, please comment below.
If you have a story like mine about the Jah Love, tell us about it. Post it below in the comments section.
What’s in your box?

What’s in your box? This is what is in ours!! There are actually more skis, but they are at home and retired.
This weekend, I skied my 13th day of the year. It was great. I was fortunate enough to have spent my 12th day at A-Basin. Today I skied at Loveland. Both days were great. Even though there has not been a big snowfall, the snow is very good. The runs are fast, the bumps are solid, but we’re skiing. There is no complaining at all!
The ski patrols
were out in full force at A-Basin on Saturday. The Pali lift is open. We had a chance to watch the patrols pack the snow down on the Pali runs. This does not look like an easy job. The benefit…they get to take a nice freshy run when they are finished with their work – a very nice reward!
There is a big storm rolling into the mountains. Hopefully, there will be a dead on hit to A-Basin. And hopefully, this will allow Pali to open! This area of A-Basin is amazing to ski. Just be prepared to ski the bumps!
Today, the visi
bility was extremely clear at Loveland. The ridge was open, and we could see for miles. The Gore Range was very clear, Breckenridge and Keystone, Torry’s or maybe Greys. I’m always confusing the two. I believe we saw Mount of the Holy Cross. The day was simply beautiful!
The snow was a bit thin in certain areas, but that is to be expected at this time of year. Overall, it was another great weekend of skiing. And the Gotama’s still ROCK! Especially on the groomers and in the bumps. They are a fun challenge!!!
Until the next post…have a great day!
