The Spoiled Ski Snob

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Do you know a spoiled ski snob or are you one yourself?  If you are a newbie here in Colorado let’s say from the northeast of the US, you probably are not a ski snob.  If you’ve been here for many ski seasons and you don’t travel to the mountains because of the erratic inconsistent snow fall this winter, you may be a spoiled ski snob.  Think about the past couple of seasons.  We’ve had multiple waist deep or deeper snow falls.  So far this season, I haven’t experienced a full run with that kind of powder.  It’s been somewhat frustrating being that we’ve had such great seasons for the past five years.   As the season seems to be odd at best, I feel we may be just one month behind, at least that’s what I want to believe.  I’m not alone here in this thought…I’ve heard others voice it as well.  I hope to be correct and April becomes the month of big dumps.  So to sum up here…if you are not skiing, you’re missing out.  Although it’s not waist deep, it’s Colorado skiing and it’s far better than many other places in this world.  So get out there, work on your form, get a bloody mary, just hang out, and meet new friends.  Most importantly, enjoy your time on the mountain in such an amazing place as Colorado!!!

Halloween 2009

Monday, October 26th, 2009

I’m skiing on Halloween, are you?  What is your favorite ski costume?  I’m not sure I have a favorite, but let’s discuss some of the best costumes we have seen on the mountain.  Make a comment below with the best ski costumes you have seen.

So on another note, a quick recap of last Saturday…it was snowing at Arapahoe Basin.  Chains were required on Loveland Pass.  Ramrod was openend for the first time this year.  There was a small amount of fresh snow.  I actually achieved a small amount of amplitude, quite possibly 1/16th of an inch off the run on the bottom right side of Ramrod.  It was quite exciting.  And I took 6 runs.  This is the most I got in all year, my third day actually.  I was in line for the last 2 runs for just a bit longer than I would have liked, but I dealt with it because the snow was so great. It seemed like there a so many more snowboarders at Arapahoe Basin than skiers.

So back to the costumes…how about the guy skiing with the badger on his head!  Gotta love Badger and always give a shout out to him/her if you see them when you’re riding on the lift.  There’s the hot ski bunny!  Gotta give a shout out always to her too.    How about if you dress up as a pickle!  That would be funny.  I have no idea why, but it would!  I guess a shot goes out to the picklee too.

So let’s talk about ski weather…it was snowing all day on Sunday in Denver and it’s supposed to snow on Wednesday.  Quick shout out to Wolf Creek who is opening this weekend on Halloween.  BOO!  That’s all shout outs I’ve got.  Come and follow us on Twitter to converse more.  Have a great week!

Thanksgiving 2009 Holiday Ski Forecast

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

In 2008, we wrote the following article…Well…it’s looking like there will be snow on Friday evening and Saturday at Breckenridge. We’re planning a day trip and utilizing ski school for out-of-towners. Weather.com is reporting snow for both days and we’re planning to ski on Saturday. I hope it falls as it seems as though we just don’t have that much snow in Colorado just yet.

Thanksgiving 2009 weather forecast has not been available by weather.com as of October 13, 2009.  We do hope for a terrific snow fall in the mountains.  Some of the best skiing happens in early December, so it’s key to have a big dump during the previous thanksgiving weekend.  Click here to get the 2009 Thanksgiving Weather forecast and Colorado news breaking weather.
