Halloween 2009

Monday, October 26th, 2009

I’m skiing on Halloween, are you?  What is your favorite ski costume?  I’m not sure I have a favorite, but let’s discuss some of the best costumes we have seen on the mountain.  Make a comment below with the best ski costumes you have seen.

So on another note, a quick recap of last Saturday…it was snowing at Arapahoe Basin.  Chains were required on Loveland Pass.  Ramrod was openend for the first time this year.  There was a small amount of fresh snow.  I actually achieved a small amount of amplitude, quite possibly 1/16th of an inch off the run on the bottom right side of Ramrod.  It was quite exciting.  And I took 6 runs.  This is the most I got in all year, my third day actually.  I was in line for the last 2 runs for just a bit longer than I would have liked, but I dealt with it because the snow was so great. It seemed like there a so many more snowboarders at Arapahoe Basin than skiers.

So back to the costumes…how about the guy skiing with the badger on his head!  Gotta love Badger and always give a shout out to him/her if you see them when you’re riding on the lift.  There’s the hot ski bunny!  Gotta give a shout out always to her too.    How about if you dress up as a pickle!  That would be funny.  I have no idea why, but it would!  I guess a shot goes out to the picklee too.

So let’s talk about ski weather…it was snowing all day on Sunday in Denver and it’s supposed to snow on Wednesday.  Quick shout out to Wolf Creek who is opening this weekend on Halloween.  BOO!  That’s all shout outs I’ve got.  Come and follow us on Twitter to converse more.  Have a great week!

Off Piste Skiing

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Off piste skiing occurs when you are not skiing on the groomer.  It’s interesting because on a day like this past Saturday, the groomer could technically be considered off piste skiing.  The courderoy was a bit rigid and bumpy similar to skiing of the groomer.  It was a spring like day with a hard pack in the morning and by just after 10:30am, the bumps were spectacular on the West Wall at A-Basin.  They were soft and easy to bounce off of.

The purpose of this post is to remind you we are far from our ski season being over.  Actually, I may be reminding myself of this.  The snow is spectacular and we’re just in a bit of a snow funk.  Tonight there’s a warning for up to 20 inches in the Colorado High Country.  Get ready for a killer April as I predict a stellar spring season.

***All predictions are based on nothing but a gut feeling and chances of them being right or wrong is a 50/50 split.
