Rocker Technology Part III
Bottom line…once you understand your ski is not as long
as you think it is when the Rocker Technology is built into the
ski, you’ll have a fantastic time. The Bent Chetler by
Atomic had the most rocker in it when I attended a recent Colorado
Ski and Golf demo day at Loveland Ski Area in Colorado. I was
on the 183 or maybe the 192, it was hard to remember because it was
really like being on a ski significantly shorter. Although
shorter, I still had great speed and it gripped the snow like no
other ski I’ve skiied on in my over 20 years of skiing. I
loved the Volkl Kuro and Katana as well as the Nordica Girish and
Line Prophet 130 which was also tremendous…but it’s the Bent
Chetler that I want. It’s the ski I just am itching to ride
on again and again and again. Tremendous engineering by
Atomic Skis. Infact, a bold statement here, and a blanket statement
–> the Bent Chetler is the ski for
everyone. I now believe I fully
understand the Rocker Technology and it’s great. Going
forward, when looking at skis, focus on looking at the skis from
their side with both bottoms touching each other. See the
break and view the arch of the tips. The more Rocker, the closer it
breaks towards the front ski binding. The Bent Chetler has a
lot of rocker in it which makes it so much fun to ski on.
HOWEVER…I do still believe the ski
industry has not pushed the envelope fully to where it needs to go
and that’s simply by adding more length to each ski. I want a
ski like the Bent Chetler but in a length nearing 200 or
more. I want more ski so I can bomb down faster and break
through the powder harder. That is the next step that must be
made in skiing design and manufacturing incorporating the Rocker
Technology. Another move will be to increase the width under
foot. With the combination of a heavy amount of rocker,
increased length and width under foot, the ski of the future will
be so fast, so much fun, and will bomb down the mountain.
