Powder Daze

Arapahoe Basin 11.15.09

Enthusiastic preparation for first lift on a powder day at Arapahoe Basin on Sunday November 15th 2009…the rider above is pumped!

Arapahoe Basin reported 8 inches.  In two months, or even a month, eight inches is a very good powder day and for some it’s epic.  At this time of the year, eight inches is great to develop the base.  It’s not deep pow pow for sure.

We took the Exhibition lift and waited for the two person lift for about 5-10 minutes.  I was extremely warm as I found the best jacket I’ve ever owned in my life.  The Salomon jacket is one of the huge puffy jackets that feels like a sleeping bag.  It’s like a jacket made for Mt. Everest.  I had on a Mountain Hardware base layer and a t-shirt.  I was so warm!  It was so nice to be this warm on a ski day at A-Basin.  I highly recommend this jacket!

The skiing was fun.  There was a touch of fresh pow on top of the groomed runs and I even caught some air as I bombed down Ramrod.   It was exhilarating!  Next week, Vail opens and I look forward to the crowds moving west away from A-Basin.  Heck, I may even be part of that crowd…I’m contemplating skiing Vail on Saturday.

Make sure you check out more pictures from the weekend here!
